Definitions:

Plug & Ring: Plugs are "male" gages used to check holes. Rings are "female" gages used to check shafts. So a Plug would be used to gage a tapped hole, and a Ring used to gage a bolt or threaded shaft.

Taperlock Plug: These are replaceable, male plug gages. The end which installs into your handle has a slight taper to press into the handle socket. These are the most popular choice for thread plug gages.

Reversible Plug: These replaceable, male plug gages are held in a collet style handle. When your gage shows wear or damage then it may be flipped in the collet. Similar in appearance to "all-thread" rods.

Trilock Plug: Another type of reversible plug gage are Trilock plugs. For large gages, these members are bolted onto the handle, and may also be reversed if one end shows wear.

Set Plug: These plugs are special purpose for simulating an external thread - NOT for inspecting tapped holes. Typical uses would include inspecting the set point of adjustable thread ring gages.

STI Plug: These plug gages are sized to inspect the pitch diameter of threaded holes intended for the installation of helical screw thread insert wires.

Ring: Ring gages are intended to inspect external threaded shafts.

Class: Imperial gages are available in two classes - #2 & #3 - which refer to the UN standard for their pitch diameter tolerances. Where a Class 3 thread has a tighter fit requirement than Class 2, where "B" refers to internal threads and "A" to external threads. Metric gages are only offered in Class 6H for internal and 6g for external.

Go / No-Go Members: Your gage is available in either a "Go", "No-Go", or a "Set" configuration. Where Go Members ONLY check that a thread meets it's minimum clearance of fit. A No-Go Member ONLY checks whether a thread exceeds it's maximum clearance of fit. Where a Set of both Members allows you to qualify a threads actual clearance lies between the two extremes (Passing Quality). For example, a tapped hole must allow the Go gage to screw in, but not allow the No-Go to enter.

Hand: The vast majority of all threads are "Right Handed" - meaning "Righty Tighty, Lefty Loosey"....  For some applications you may need "Left Handed" gages. We have these available in Plug, Ring, Imperial, and Metric styles.
